Chadwick Lawrence Works with Ken Hall and the CHSF to Support Mental Health in the Workplace
At Chadwick Lawrence, we’re committed to supporting both our colleagues and the wider community in issues of health and wellness. Since 2021, we have partnered with Mental Health First Aid (MHFA) facilitator Ken Hall to host accredited Mental Health First Aid training at our Wakefield office. For this initiative we have the Children’s Heart Surgery Fund (CHSF) as a corporate partner, we feel this provides an impactful way to address mental health awareness while also supporting a charity close to our hearts.
Where it began
Our partnership with Ken began when one of our colleagues attended his MHFA course in Leeds. Impressed by Ken’s engaging delivery and the course’s comprehensive content, our team suggested relocating future sessions to our Wakefield office.
Ken has a personal connection to CHSF, as his son was born with a congenital heart defect, Transposition of the Great Arteries, in 2014. This experience inspired him to become a corporate partner of CHSF, dedicating part of his work proceeds to support families across Yorkshire and the Humber with children affected by congenital heart defects. Since 2022, his contributions through our hosted courses have amounted to nearly £1,700, with 2024 donations expected to reach around £1,300.
What each session involves
Ken Hall, an experienced facilitator with a background in various sectors, delivers a range of mental health and leadership sessions. His courses include:
- Mental Health First Aid (MHFA) for Adult and Youth – certified by MHFA England
- Mental Health Awareness and Refresher Courses – MHFA England certified
- Mental Health Skills for Managers – MHFA certified and additional bespoke sessions based on HR experience
- Suicide First Aid – certified by the National Centre for Suicide Prevention, Education, and Training
- Supporting Neurodiversity in the Workplace – CPD accredited workshops for managers, covering the intersection of mental health and neurodiversity support
Our colleagues always have the option to attend Ken’s sessions at no cost, furthering our internal culture of support and openness around mental health. By hosting these sessions, we also open our doors to clients, reinforcing our commitment to mental health and well-being within the professional community.
2025’s schedule
While we’ve concluded this year’s courses, we’re pleased to announce three upcoming two-day MHFA sessions at our Wakefield office in 2025, scheduled for March, June, and September. These sessions will focus on Mental Health First Aid and managing mental health in the workplace. For those who were certified in 2022, refresher courses are on the horizon for 2025 to ensure everyone remains equipped to support mental health needs in the workplace.
