West Yorkshire care provider fined £5,000 for failing resident
A care home in Bradford has been fined £5,000 for “catastrophically” failing to protect a resident from falling.
The Care Quality Commission had prosecuted Greystones Nursing Home Ltd, which operates Greystones Nursing Home in Bradford.
The 75-year-old resident fell on 23 occasions in the four months after moving into the home in November 2019.
The CQC said Greystones was a residential care home which provided nursing and personal care for up to 31 people with mental health problems or dementia.
It said the resident had poor physical and mental health when he was admitted to the home and was assessed as being at high risk of falls. Prior to his death, there were 23 incidents recorded of him falling, placing himself on the floor and being found by staff, or having unexplained injuries. Of those incidents, six resulted in him being admitted to hospital.
Sheila Grant, deputy director of operations in the north at the CQC, said the gentleman was “catastrophically let down by the care he received from Greystones Nursing Home, which led to him being exposed to a significant risk of avoidable harm.
“It failed in its duty to protect him, in a place he called home, where he should have been safe and receiving the best possible care to meet his individual needs.”
In addition to the fine, the provider was ordered to pay costs of £5,000 and a £181 victim surcharge.
