Driving Without Due Care & Attention
Commonly known as careless driving, this means that the police believe that you were driving in a way that falls below the standard expected of a competent and careful driver. If you were involved in an accident as a result, and are unable to offer any explanation, the court may infer that you were driving below this standard.
Examples of careless driving include:
- Overtaking on the inside lane;
- Driving too close to another vehicle;
- Cutting-off another vehicle at a junction;
- Inadvertently driving through a red light;
- Tuning a car radio and being distracted by it;
- Aggressive driving;
- Tiredness/being unwell.
We know what it takes to defend a charge of careless driving by thorough examination of the events and detailed preparation of your case before court. It is vitally important that you seek advice as soon as possible in order that we can help assess whether you have a defence to the charge.
Depending upon the nature of your driving, you could face anything from 3 points on your licence all the way through to disqualification, in addition to a fine. Whether you decide to plead guilty or not to a charge of careless driving, we work with you and advise you at every stage, including representation at court, to ensure that you receive the best possible outcome.
