In the News
There have been lots of relevant employment law/HR updates this week.
Removing female staff from WhatsApp groups while they are on maternity leave is discrimination.
This judgement came after a Claimant brought a claim against her employer for pregnancy and maternity discrimination. The Claimant told the tribunal that a male colleague removed her from the WhatsApp group when she went on maternity leave and refused to let her back in the group during this period, insisting that there was “no reason” for her to be in the group whilst she was off. The Claimant felt isolated, and she was unable to keep up with work updates, social events, or general chatter on the group. The tribunal held that the Claimant suffered unfavourable treatment and a detriment by the Respondent’s decision not to put her back on the WhatsApp group and upheld her claim of discrimination.
